The Hermitage at Pontoise

The Hermitage at Pontoise is a mesmerizing painting by the famous artist and painter Jacob Camille Pissarro who was born in the year 1830 at the West Indies Island. He is known to be a struggling artist who gave up all the luxuries to start at a scratch and build his own standing by moving from his native place in Paris. Hishard work and dedication towards art made him a recognized painter. Though there are several other famous paintings by Camille Pissarro but “The Hermitage at Pontoise”is one of his most excellent works of art.

This painting illustrates a view of a village showing a number of small houses in Pontoise in France. This whole cluster of houses is known as the Hermitage. Pontoise is a small town just 25 miles northwest from Paris. The artist has a close connection and relativity with this painting because he himself lived there for around 17 years and was inspired to bring to the canvas many landscapes in and around the area. The painting highlights the use of very vibrant colors along with the use of very expressive skill at brush work. Both dark and light colors have been used in the painting that helps in showing the awesome effects of shade as well as sun.

In his painting he has also brought forth the lower and the ordinary section of people. Pissarro in his paintings tried to show the condition of the peasants and their actual livelihood using the natural surroundings around them. The Hermitage at Pontoise is quite close to the artist’s heart because it depicts his quest for a truthful and idealistic life in Pontoise. The most important achievement of Jacob Camille Pissarro is that his work has been shown in all the impressionist exhibitions of Paris.
